Sleep small of Lavender
Sleepers exposed to the scent of Lavender before bed experience deeper sleep and feel more refreshed in the morning.
Researchers at Wesleyan University, USA found that the herb’s effect may be even stronger for troubled sleepers in instances of longer exposure, which could be achieved by putting drops of oil on a pillow.
Pursuit of Happiness
Happiness is a collective phenomenon and strongly related to the close physical proximity of friends according to findings from Harvard’s Medical School. An analysis of behavioural patterns found that a person is 42 percent more likely to be happy if a friend who lives less than half a mile away becomes happy - a figure that declined with greater distance.
Study leader Professor Nicholas Christakis said: “The most important thing from our perspective is the recognition that people are embedded in social networks and that the health and wellbeing of one person affects the health and wellbeing of others.” He concluded by saying that the results suggest clusters of happiness occur because happiness spreads and not just because of a tendency for people to associate with similar individuals.
Breath easy for longevity
Clinical studies conducted at the University of Buffalo have shown that your lung function is a significant predictor of longevity.
Lead researcher Dr. Schanemann said that people with moderately impaired lung functions have an increased mortality rate, concluding that “the most important determining factor in health is the quality of your breathing.”
He added that the reasons lung function may predict mortality are not clear, noting that increased risk is found in non-smokers, as well as among smokers.
Nutritional healing
The modern solution to many physical and mental conditions is prescription drugs, but Guy Russell, fitness trainer and nutrition expert for The OnboardSpa Company, discusses the virtues of healthy eating and explains how an understanding of nutritional values can boost the immune system, increase energy levels and potentially decrease the number of visits to the doctor's surgery.
